Coaching Staff
Learn about the leaders shaping RUHS Rangers Girls Basketball on and off the court.
“My responsibility is not simply to coach basketball. My responsibility is to help young women discover what they are capable of becoming.” –Coach Stephen Zimmer
Coach Stephen Zimmer serves as the Head Girls Basketball Coach for the Lady Rangers at Rincon/University High School.
A lifelong student of leadership, Coach Zimmer brings more than 25 years of experience developing teams and people in both athletics and military service. He currently serves as a Chief Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, where he leads and mentors Airmen in high-performance environments that demand accountability, teamwork, resilience, and character.
Coach Zimmer believes basketball is one of the greatest classrooms available to young people. While winning matters and competition is embraced, the ultimate purpose of the program extends far beyond the scoreboard. His mission is to help young women develop the confidence, courage, discipline, and leadership skills necessary to succeed in life long after their playing days are over.
His coaching philosophy is built around a simple belief:
Basketball isn’t who we are. It’s what we do in pursuit of becoming the best versions of ourselves.
Players in the Lady Rangers program are challenged to compete fiercely, communicate honestly, lead courageously, and hold themselves accountable to a high standard. Coach Zimmer believes that meaningful growth occurs when athletes are pushed beyond their comfort zones while knowing they are supported by coaches and teammates who genuinely care about their success.
Known for his emphasis on defensive intensity, player development, and team culture, Coach Zimmer is committed to building a program where every athlete has the opportunity to improve, contribute, and develop into a confident young woman prepared for future challenges.
Outside of basketball, Coach Zimmer is a husband and father who understands the trust families place in coaches. He considers that responsibility one of the most important aspects of the profession and strives to create an environment where players feel valued, challenged, and connected.
His vision for Lady Rangers Basketball is to build a program that develops competitors on the court, leaders in the community, and young women of character for life.
